Elders and Deacons The elders of Harvest Christian Church are a community of spiritually mature men who love the Lord, each other, the Church universal and the ministry. They tenderly care for the flock of which they have been given a charge, protect the flock from all dangers of any variety, and are ultimately responsible before God and the congregation for the wellbeing of the church The deacons of Harvest Christian Church are also a community of men and women who love the Lord, each other, the Church universal and this ministry. The deacons serve the local body as directed by the eldership of the church. Eldership and Membership Covenants Douglas Adams once said; “Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.” In recent years the American church has lowered the expectation of what it means to be a part of a church, to be a member. The result is not that we have widely expanded the number of followers of Jesus Christ, nor, in general, seen the growth of the church in America. What we have seen is that discipleship has grown insipid and pale, and the sense of deep connection and community has been replaced with a kind of religious consumerism. These covenants that we have established between the elders and the congregation and between members of the congregation with each other and the church at large have two intensions. First, to help us learn how to be more fully committed disciples to our Lord Jesus Christ. Second, to draw us to a deep commitment to each other in a biblical sense of being the body of Christ, belonging to each other. These covenant are our attempt to remind ourselves of our commitments to God and each other, and to help us know how to live out those commitments. 2011 Leadership Board Elders Joel Brendemuhl, chair Ken Glover Jeff Look Jonathan Peine Joel Searby Deacons Dan Ball Kevin Birkett Jonathan Breman Kent Mock Chris Nicolich Pete Peterman Bob Weber Josh Williams
